Flowers for the Seasons

When working with flowers you’ll find that there are certain types more popular and readily available depending on the time of year. I have compiled a list of the flowers most commonly used during the different seasons, and which fit the best whether it be spring, summer, fall, or winter. On top of the different types of flowers, I have also noted which colors are best used together to reflect the time of year. Check out the lists below for help in decorating your home or wedding.

Best Colors:

Fall - Red, orange, yellow, gold, rust, eggplant, and burgundy.
Winter - Red, white, cream, green, burguny, ivory, and gold.
Spring - White, cream, and pastel shades of pink, yellow, green, blue, and purple.
Summer - Vibrant tones of pink, red, yellow, orange, blue, turquoise, purple, and green.

Popular Seasonal Flowers:

Fall - Flowers that are wonderful to use for the fall season are chyrsanthemums (mums), chinese/japanese lanterns, calla lilies, marigolds, sunflowers, gladiolus, lilies, gerbera daisies, peonies, forsythias, and bird of paradise. You may also want to add accent pieces such as fall colored leaves, pumpkins, gourds, and dried flowers/foliage.

Winter - Amaryllis, alstroemerias, carnations, gardenias, roses, poinsettias, calla lilies, snowballs, hydrangeas, and lilies are excellent flowers for winter. Try accents such as holly, pine, crystals, and berries.

Spring - Spring flowers include daffodils, bell flowers, daisies, calla lilies, freesias, hyaciths, iris, jasmine, lilacs, lily of the valley, tulips, sweet peas, stephanotis, snagdragon, and baby’s breath or gypsophila.

Summer - Flowers that have that summer touch them are sunflowers, gerbera daisies, poppies, peonies, roses, orchids, calla lilies, bird of paradise, gloriosas, dahlias, iris, freesias, day lilies, geraniums, magnolias, anemones, forsythias, and any tropical flower.
